INDEX is part periodical, part library, part collaboration space and part experimental open source print-on-demand publishing system connecting thinkers and makers around some of the largest societal problems.
INDEX creates an open forum, inviting artists, scientists, engineers and business owners to pool their collective insight and understanding to fuel and promote change. It will take the collective mind to build a better future - ensuring that all efforts are aligned.
The name INDEX is inspired by the manicule. The manicule ☞ is a shared symbol between the printer, publisher and reader which indicates and points at notable parts of the text. Usually seen in the form of a pointing hand in the margins of the text, the manicule (from the Latin maniculum or “little hand”) has been used since ancient times, but lost favor during the advent of the automated printing which preferred industry accepted footnoting devices such as the * and the dagger: †.
Issue #1 of INDEX is "FLATTENING". It explores and expresses the observed flatness and permanent change as a result of living through the Global pandemic.
